We, FIZ Karlsruhe – Leibniz-Institut für Informationsinfrastruktur GmbH, are the publishers and operators of the website www.bine.info. The protection and security of your personal data is of primary concern to us. We use personal data, collected when users visit our websites, exclusively in accordance with the provisions of general data protection laws.

1. Collection of personal data

When visiting our website www.bine.info, you will only be asked to provide personal data if you

  • send us a message using the contact form
  • place an order for free publications
  • register free of charge as a BINE subscriber
  • purchase products available at a charge in our shop
  • take part in a survey.

In these cases we require your name, e-mail address, address and, if applicable, the products you wish to receive. We shall request additional personal information if you register in order to subscribe to our services and publications – i.e. your subject and language preferences as well as indication of the professional context in which the information will be used.

By entering your personal data, you are consenting to the processing and use by us of your personal data to process and implement the information services you have selected and for the other purposes specified below.

Data regarding your person or the information you wish to receive will only be used for the precise purpose for which you have given us this data. This includes the forwarding of your data – to the extent necessary – to FIZ Karlsruhe's sales and contractual partners so that ordered services and technical support can be provided. In all other cases, your data will not be forwarded or sold to third parties for their marketing or other commercial purposes without your consent. As a subscriber to our e-mail services or subscriptions, you can cancel the registration at any time.

2. Cookies

We use so-called cookies for our website www.bine.info. This means that data is stored on the communicating computer (user PC) in order to simplify the use of our services. Naturally, you can also delete cookies at any time via the corresponding browser function. There, you can also set how your browser should deal with cookies in general. If you delete cookies or set your browser to reject cookies, this may impair the function of the portal and some functions of the system will not be available then.

3. Log Files

The operator of this website automatically collects and stores so-called log files on its servers. These contain information forwarded to the operator of the site by the web browser of communicating computers (user PCs), the so-called Referrer URL, i.e. the previous site visited, the host name of the accessing computer (IP address) and the time of the server inquiry. The operator of this website cannot allocate this data to specific persons. This data is not brought together with other data sources. We use the information contained in the log files with the IP addresses of our customers exclusively

  • to gather statistical information about overall use
  • to analyse the general use of our web sites, and
  • to be able to reconstruct the dialogues of our customers in the event of faults.

We do not identify the users of the website www.bine.info.

4. Social Media Widget

We welcome our readers recommending and discussing contents of our website www.bine.info on Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and other social media sites. The operators of these platforms provide corresponding buttons for this purpose.

The inclusion of these buttons in the form of a so-called social media widget, in our case from the provider ShareThis, means that data is normally transferred to Twitter, Facebook and Google+ as soon as a page of the website www.bine.info is accessed – without our visitors having explicitly consented to this. Among other things, a code is also transferred in addition to the web address of the site visited; this code enables a direct link between the visitor to the website and his/her profile, for example on Facebook. The platforms do not provide any specific information concerning which data is also transferred. Here, you can find the respective data protection provisions of the providers: Facebook, Google+ and Twitter. Also shown here are the data protection provisions of ShareThis, the provider of the social media widget used by us.

In order to prevent the undesired forwarding of user data to Twitter, Facebook and Google+ you should not be logged on to the said services when visiting websites. No data will then be forwarded to these services. Alternatively, you can deactivate the social media services via ShareThis, the provider of the social media widget used by us, and thus prevent communication with Facebook, Google+ and Twitter. To do this, go to “More” in the social media widget and click on “Do not track”. The latest web browsers offer a further possibility of preventing the transfer of data to the above mentioned services on a general basis via the function “Do not track”. You can activate this function permanently in the browser settings of the latest browser versions.

5. Links to Third-Party Web Sites

Note that other service providers' websites that you can access here may ask you for personal data. This data protection statement does not apply to the websites of other service providers. We have structured the accessing of third-party websites in such a way that it is recognisable as such (indication of external link, opening of a new window with the URL address of the other provider).

6. Data protection

Security measures protect the websites of the FIZ Karlsruhe GmbH against loss, misuse and unauthorised modifications. In addition, we make every effort to protect your personal data as best as possible in accordance with the provisions of the relevant data protection laws. However, FIZ Karlsruhe GmbH cannot guarantee the security of the data you provide to us under all circumstances. Data transfer is carried out at your risk.
